2013-14 Wrestling Athletes of the Week

February 3, 2014-February 9, 2014

Nathaniel Behnke, 141 Pounds, Sophomore, Bruce, Wis.
Behnke went 5-1 this week at 141 pounds, competing in two different meets at home. Friday against UW-Oshkosh, he defeated Joe Pelkey with a pin in 1:48. Behnke then took second at the Blugold Open on Saturday. He opened with two victories by fall, then won by medical forfeit and followed with an 8-2 win to get to the title match. In the championship match, he narrowly fell to UW-Parkside's Adam Yde, 5-3, to finish in second place.

January 20, 2014-January 26, 2014

Nathaniel Behnke, 141 Pounds, Sophomore, Bruce, Wis.
Behnke went 3-1 for the week, competing in a conference dual on Wednesday and at the UW-Whitewater Border Brawl Duals on Saturday. At 141 pounds on Saturday, Behnke started the day with a 12-3 major decision win and followed with a 14-0 victory before ending the day with a 13-0 win to go 3-0. Wednesday against UW-Stevens Point, he narrowly fell 2-1. For the season, Behnke now holds a 24-6 overall record.

January 13, 2014-January 19, 2014

Nathaniel Behnke, 141 Pounds, Sophomore, Bruce, Wis.
Behnke had the top finish for the Blugolds at Cornell College's Matman Invitational on Saturday as he took fourth place at 141 pounds. Behnke started with a bye and then won his first competition 16-0 while following up with a 3-0 victory to advance to the semifinals. He then fell 6-1 in the semifinal but followed with a 10-5 win to compete for third place. In the third-place match, he came up short, 6-3, to finish in fourth place. Behnke now holds a 21-5 record this year.

December 28, 2013-January 5, 2014

Ryan Seidler, 149 Pounds, Senior, Adams, Wis./Adams-Friendship
Competing in three matches at the Lakeland Duals on Saturday, Seidler went 3-0 at 149 pounds. He started the day with a 10-6 win against Lakeland College, then won 16-0 over MSOE before ending the day with a 14-5 win against Wheaton College (Ill.). Seidler is now 11-2 on the season and has won six straight matches.

Competing in one match this week against 14th-ranked UW-Whitewater, Seidler came away with a 5-3 victory at 149 pounds over Nick Fanella. Seidler is now 8-2 on the season and has won three straight.

December 2, 2013-December 8, 2013

Nathaniel Behnke, 141 Pounds, Sophomore, Bruce, Wis.
Behnke, ranked sixth at 141 pounds in the latest national rankings, went undefeated this week, picking up four wins. He won by forfeit Thursday against UW-Platteville. Saturday at the Candlewood Suites Duals at UW-La Crosse on Saturday, Behnke won two matches with major decisions while winning once by forfeit to finish 3-0 on the day. Behnke opened the day with a 9-1 win over Cornell's Samuel Chalkley and then won by forfeit against Loras. He ended the day with a 9-0 victory over Southwest Minnesota State's Ethan Hildebrandt. Behnke now holds a 15-2 overall record this season and has won seven straight matches.

November 18, 2013-November 24, 2013

Luke Ortscheid, 197 Pounds, Senior, Wausau, Wis./West
Ortscheid competed in five matches in two different meets this weekend at 197 pounds. Friday in the Blugolds' WIAC and home opener against UW-La Crosse, he fell in 6:17 when Alastair Keys pinned him. Saturday at the Auggie-Brute Open at Augsburg College, he finished with a 2-2 record to take sixth place in the 197-pound gold bracket. Ortscheid opened with a 10-7 win but fell in the next round. He then won the next round 9-5 before narrowly falling 8-6 in the fifth-place match.

Nathaniel Behnke, 141 Pounds, Sophomore, Bruce, Wis.
Wrestling against seven opponents in two contests to open the 2013-14 season, Behnke has a 6-1 record. This past weekend at the Pointer Open, he won the 141 title by winning four straight matches. He opened by winning with two pins and then secured first place after a 7-2 win in the semifinals, followed by a 4-3 win in the championship. On Nov. 2 at the Yellowjacket Open, hosted by Rochester Community and Technical College, Behnke came in second place. He won the first two matches but then dropped a 6-3 decision in the championship match to take second.
