February 6, 2006-February 12, 2006

"Andy Miller, 133 pounds, Fr., Appleton, WI/North"
Miller was one of two Blugolds to earn a victory in a 33-10 defeat to 17th ranked UW-Stevens Point in what will be their final tune-up for the WIAC Championships. Miller won by major decision over Jared Kern 16-2. During the match Miller recorded one take down, two reversals and three-three point near falls in the victory.

January 31, 2006-February 5, 2006

"Derek Sikora, 165 pounds, Sr., Neillsville, WI"
Sikora was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler earning first place at 165 pounds at the 28th Annual Blugold Invitational hosted by UW-Eau Claire. Sikora began the weekend with a dual meet victory over Kevin Luedtke of UW-Oshkosh 10-1 as the Blugolds defeated the Titans 38-6. Ranked second and seeded second in the Invitational, Sikora began the day by defeating Luedtke for the second day in a row, this time winning by pin at 2:21 followed by a major decision victory over Jake Heuston of UW-La Crosse 12-3. Sikora would major decision Ben Youel of North Central (IL) in his semifinal match and advance to the championship match against top-seeded Ryan Volek, the top-ranked wrestler in the nation at 165 pounds. Overtime was needed as Sikora defeated Volek 3-1. The victory marked the third invitational championship earned by Sikora this season as he improves his record to 24-2.

January 22, 2006-January 29, 2006

"Derek Sikora, 165 pounds, Sr., Neillsville, WI"
Sikora won the 165 pound weight class at the North Country Tournament hosted by St. John's (MN). Sikora went 4-0 on the day allowing just two points en route to winning his weight class. Sikora opened the day pinning Aaron Young of Itasca Community College (MN) at 1:27. Up next Sikora defeated Kyle Dukowitz 2-0 who wrestled unattached. In the semifinal Sikora pinned Stanton Schlecht at 6:44 to advance to the championship match where he defeated seventh-seeded Ryan Meyer 5-2. Ranked fourth in the nation at 165 pounds, Sikora improved his overall season record to 19-2.

January 16, 2006-January 22, 2006

"Justin McAuly, 197 pounds, Jr., Clintonville, WI"
McAuly improved his overall record to 13-5 at 197 pounds posting two wins in two Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) dual meets. McAuly pinned Ron Runde of UW-Platteville at 4:45 and defeated Scott Polewach of Lawrence by technical fall 17-2.

January 9, 2006-January 15, 2006

"Derek Sikora, 165 pounds, Sr., Neillsville, WI"
Sikora took second place posting a 2-1 record earning second place honors at the Dan Gable Open hosted by UW-Oshkosh. Sikora faced two Division I and one Division II wrestler in his weight class. Entering the open as the second seed, Sikora earned a first round bye. In the second round Sikora defeated Braden McLoughlin, wrestling unattached from UW-Madison, by technical fall 20-2. In the semifinal match Sikora defeated third-seeded Kyle Becker of UW-Parkside 8-0. In the championship match Sikora was defeated by Seth Garvin of UW-Madison 5-3.

January 2, 2006-January 8, 2006

"Derek Sikora, 165 pounds, Sr., Neillsville, WI"
Sikora went a perfect 6-0 on the weekend with a dual meet victory and a first place finish in the 28th Annual Cornell Matman Invitational hosted by Cornell (IA) College. In a dual meet versus Cornell Sikora defeated Drew Vickers by pin at 6:58 as the Blugolds narrowly lost to the 26th-ranked Rams 25-18. At the Matman Invitational Sikora went 5-0 at 165 pounds defeating two seeded wrestlers in the process. Sikora opened with a victory over Chad Carter of York (NE) by pin in 33 seconds. After a 12-0 victory over Joe Keleher of Morningside (IA) Sikora recorded his second pin of the day defeating Ted Garelick of the University of Chicago at 3:58. Sikora won his semifinal match versus fourth-seeded Mike Bishof of the University of Chicago 12-4. In the championship match Sikora defeated second-seeded Brian Daly of Augustana (IL) 3-2.

December 5, 2005-December 11, 2005

"Josh Holforty, 197 pounds, So., Bloomington, MN/Kennedy"
Holforty posted an impressive 5-0 record this week as the Blugolds faced three nationally ranked teams in five dual meets. Holforty started the week with a 5-3 decision over Tim Winker of UW-La Crosse, the second ranked team in the nation. At the University of Dubuque (IA) Duals Holforty started the day with a 6-4 decision over Nickolai Timbs of Dubuque. The Spartans are currently ranked 28th nationally. Next Holforty would defeat Kyle Coleman of UW-Oshkosh 3-0 before defeating Austin Hayes of Buena Vista (IA) 3-0. The Beavers are currently ranked 27th in the nation. Holforty ended the day with a 5-0 victory over Ed Oehlers of Concordia-Moorhead (MN). For the week Holforty outscored his opponents 25-9.

November 30, 2005-December 4, 2005

"Tony D'Antuono, 141 pounds, Sr., Waukesha, WI/South"
D'Antuono was impressive in the first WIAC dual meet of the season versus UW-Whitewater with a technical fall over Matt Shuck 19-4. During the match D'Antuono totaled six take downs and two-three point near falls in the victory.

November 21, 2005-November 27, 2005

"Joey Miller, 184 pounds, So., Lake Tomahawk, WI/Lakeland Union"
Miller was the lone winner for the Blugolds in a 39-3 defeat to fifth-ranked Luther College (IA). Miller won his match at 184 pounds by decision over A.J. Gregg 15-8 scoring four take downs in the match.

November 14, 2005-November 20, 2005

"Joey Miller, 184 pounds, So., Lake Tomahawk, WI/Lakeland Union"
Wrestling for the first time in two years and after just one week of practice, Miller went 5-2 and earned fourth place honors at the competitive Cobber Open hosted by Concordia-Moorhead (MN). In a field featuring several NAIA and NCAA Division II schools, Miller opened the day with a pin at 1:01 of Justin Schwagel of MSU-Mankato. In the second round Miller defeated Andrew Sorenson of Augustans (SD) 5-3 in overtime. Miller lost his first match of the day to Elijah Simburger of Dickinson State (ND) by technical fall. In the consolation bracket Miller defeated Ryan Coghlan of MSU-Mankato 8-2, pinned Tony Neumann of Concordia-Moorhead at 0:56 and major decisioned Dusty Wilking of Augustana (SD) 14-1 before being defeated in the third-place match to Robert Hazenberg who wrestled unattached 5-3.

November 7, 2005-November 13, 2005

"Lance Valiquette, 165 pounds, Jr., Auburn, WA"
Valiquette went a perfect 4-0 on the day scoring two pins and two major decisions at the Lakeland Duals. Valiquette started the day defeating Matt Letto of MSOE 13-4. Against Manchester of Indiana Valiquette pinned John Musie in 1:13. Against the host school Valiquette defeated Cody Klopp of Lakeland 13-2 before ending the day pinning Ryan Gehringer of Concordia (WI) in 43 seconds.
