Day Two of Eau Claire NCAA Softball Regional Complete
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – St. Thomas (Minn.) and Luther College (Iowa) are the only unbeaten teams left in the Eau Claire Regional while North Central College (Ill.) and UW-Eau Claire were eliminated at Gelein Field today.
In game one, St. Scholastica beat North Central 3-1. The Saints scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth and added another in the fifth to take a 3-0 lead. The Cardinals answered with a run in the sixth but St. Scholastica held on for the win. Saints’ Jordan Spiering led the game with two hits while Jen Falk had two RBIs. In the second game, River Falls and Eau Claire were tied at 1-1 after two innings but the Falcons scored two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth to take a 4-1 lead. The Falcons finished with 12 hits to the Blugolds’ three. Ashley Goettl led the game with three hits while Jessie Bester led with three RBIs. In the third game, Luther scored first in the bottom of the third but La Crosse took 2-1 lead in the fifth after scoring twice. Luther came on strong in the sixth, however, and scored five runs on six hits to help in the 6-2 win. The Norse finished with 10 hits while the Eagles had four. Three Luther batters each had two hits as did one La Crosse batter. Two Luther players and one La Crosse player each had two RBIs. Lexy Determan threw seven innings and struck out seven batters to improve to 23-2 on the season. Luther is currently on a 23-game winning streak. Full Recaps – Luther | La Crosse
In the final game of the day, St. Thomas showed no mercy in a 19-3 win over Ripon in five innings. St. Thomas scored now fewer than two runs in each innings and had as many as seven in the opening frame. Genny Duffy nailed two home runs and finished the game with six RBIs. Sydney Marquardt had another homer for St. Thomas while Ripon’s Alli Jensen nailed one to center field. Ripon scored two runs in the first and one in the second. Christy Gries earned the win for the Tommies to improve to 7-1 on the season. She had two strikeouts. St. Thomas is currently on a 31-game winning streak. Full Recaps – St. Thomas | Ripon
