Women's Basketball Takes Care Of Carleton

EAU CLAIRE - The UW-Eau Claire women's basketball team made it a clean sweep for the Blugolds basketball program as they followed up the men's win with a 59-50 victory over Carleton College tonight in Zorn Arena.
With the win the Blugolds improve to 5-5 overall and the Knights fall to 5-4.
The Blugolds jumped out to a 6-2 lead to start the game and would never trail. With the Blugold lead down to one with 9:27 remaining in the first half, UWEC would go on a 7-0 run to extend its lead to eight, the largest of the first half. Carleton would get it down to five at the end of the half and the Blugolds went into halftime with a 28-23 lead.
The Blugolds shot 63.2% in the first half and were a perfect 2-for-2 from beyond the arc. However, the Blugolds committed 13 turnovers in the half, which led to 12 Knight points.
The margin stayed pretty much the same through the first 10 minutes of the second half with the Blugolds growing their lead slowly. The Blugold lead would get as high as 14 with around five minutes remaining. The Blugolds would close out the Knights and go on to win 59-50.
The Blugolds shot an outstanding 57.5% for the game, while the Knights shot just 38.8%. The Blugolds were 55.6% from three, going 5-for-9. The Blugold bench stepped up big time as they outscored Carleton's bench 38-21.
Leading the way for the Blugolds was Heidi Arciszewski (Fr.-Thorp, WI), who had 13 points off the bench. Rachel Mueggenborg (West Salem, WI/Southeast Missouri St.) added 12 points for the Blugolds. Michelle Burns (So.-Eau Claire, WI/North) had seven rebounds to lead the Blugolds
The Blugolds next game won't be until Friday, December 30th as the team will travel to California to face Chapman University. The action is set to get underway at 5 p.m.
