The women have won one dual meet and lost one. They are 0-1 in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) dual meets. The team has beaten MSU-Mankato in the team's first dual meet and then lost in the meet after that to UW-Stevens Point, its only WIAC dual meet so far. Otherwise on the year, the Blugolds have been in the top half of the competition in every event. The women swam with the men in the Midwest Coed Relays held here at Eau Claire to grab first out of four teams. The team also captured third in the six-team WIAC Conference Relays held in La Crosse. The most recent meet was the Gene Davis Invitational hosted by Lawrence University. The Blugolds were runners up in that invite with nine teams competing. Cori Severson (Sr.-Brainerd, MN) took top honors at the Gene Davis Invitational with a 25.14 time in the 50-yard freestyle. She had another first in the 100-yard freestyle with 54.92. Annie Gorman (Sr.-Menomonie) also performed well for the Blugolds, swimming into fourth in the 200-yard butterfly on a 2:21.22 time. She also captured fifth in the 500-yard freestyle and in the 1650-yard freestyle. Her times were 5:25.82 and 18:48.12, respectively. The men are 0-1 in WIAC dual meets and 0-2 in all dual meets. They lost to both Mankato and Stevens Point. Besides the Midwest Coed Relays, the team has captured a pair of third place finishes. These include the WIAC Conference Relays and the Gene Davis Invite. This week's WIAC Diver of the Week, Scott Heatwole (Sr.-Port Washington), took second in the last meet on the three-meter diving boards with a 431.20 score. He also finished fifth in the one-meter event on a 382.20 total. Brian Hauerwas (So.-Racine/CASE) swam into fourth in the 200-yard butterfly event. He had a time of 2:06.62. In one of the closer dual meets of last year, Eau Claire lost 139-102 to the Eagles. This year La Crosse has competed in two events, those being the WIAC Relays and the Mutual of Omaha Invite. The women nabbed first in the relays and second out of 10 teams in the Mutual of Omaha Invite, posting 1,085.00 points in that triumph. The men swapped places with the women in these events. They took second in the relays and first in the most recent event, though there only seven teams competing for the men in the Mutual of Omaha Invite. A 1:00 p.m. start time is listed for the action in the pool this Saturday. |
