Men's Basketball To Also Host UW-La Crosse Saturday
Posted: Thursday, December 1, 2005
EAU CLAIRE - The UW-Eau Claire men's basketball team will also host conference opponent UW-La Crosse Saturday night following the women's contest.
The Blugold men have an overall record of 3-2 this season with a conference record of 0-1. The Eagles have a record of 5-1 and are also 0-1 in WIAC play. Both teams are coming off conference losses.
The Blugolds are led in scoring by Jared Bardon (So.-DeForest, WI), who is averaging 13.6 points per game. Bardon is the only Blugold that's in double-figures in scoring. Bardon also leads the team in rebounding with 32 boards and assists with 14. Zack Ryan (So.-Lake Elmo, MN/Tartan) and Dan Ottney (So.-Glenwood City, WI) are both second on the team in scoring, averaging eight points per game.
The Blugolds as a team defend the perimeter better than anyone in the conference, holding opponents to just 26.2% shooting from beyond the arc.
The Eagles are led in scoring by Joe Werner, who is averaging 12.2 points per game. The Eagles are pretty balanced with five guys averaging eight points per game or more. The Eagles have forced 28 more turnovers than they have committed this season.
The Blugolds swept the season series between the two teams last year and have won five of the last six contests.
The men's action gets underway following the women's game at approximately 7 p.m. Saturday night in Zorn Arena.
