Three Game Home Opening Week For Men's Hockey

EAU CLAIRE - The UW-Eau Claire men's hockey team plays its first home games of the season this week when it faces St. Thomas on Wednesday, Lake Forest College on Friday and St. Norbert College on Saturday.
The team is 0-5-2 overall and 0-2-0 in the WIAC and the NCHA. The team lost 5-1 to UW-River Falls before tying St. Mary's 4-4. St. Thomas then defeated the Blugolds 6-1. Eau Claire followed that up with another 4-4 tie, this one against Hamline. The Blugolds then lost 4-2 to Bethel, 5-0 to UW-Stout and 7-3 to River Falls.
Brooks Lockwood (Jr.-Hudson) leads all Blugolds in points with five. He has four goals and one assist. Five others are behind him with four points. Kyle Garner (Jr.-Sun Prairie) and Andy Klapperick (Sr.-Austin, MN) lead in assists at four.
Goalies Steffan Braunlich (Sr.-Los Angeles, CA/Loyola) and Chris Nelson (Sr.-Madison/Memorial) have both played in four games. Braunlich has made 120 saves and has a .870 save percentage. He is allowing an average of 4.71 goals a game. Nelson has a .850 save percentage and 91 saves. He is allowing an average of 4.80 goals per game.
St. Thomas is 3-3-0 on the year and 1-2-0 on the road. Other than the Eau Claire game, St. Thomas has defeated St. Mary's twice. UW-Stevens Point, Lake Forest, and St. Norbert have defeated St. Thomas. The Blugolds are 5-10-2 historically against St. Thomas.
Lake Forest is in the NCHA with the Blugolds. It is 0-2-0 in the NCHA and 3-5-0 overall. The team is 1-4-0 as the visiting team. It opened up the season by splitting a pair with Milwaukee School of Engineering. Then it lost to Augsburg and St. John's. Lake Forest beat St. Thomas and St. Mary's before losing to St. Scholastica and UW-Superior to make for the record. Eau Claire is 16-24-3 against Lake Forest lifetime.
NCHA rival St. Norbert has had a successful early season with a 7-1-1 record overall and a 1-0-1 NCHA record. It is 2-1-1 away. The team has beaten Marian, Fredonia, Buffalo State, St. John's, St. Mary's, St. Thomas and St. Scholastica. UW-Superior tied St. Norbert and Augsburg is St. Norbert's one loss. Eau Claire's record against the school is 3-23-1.
All games begin at 7:00 p.m. in Hobbs Ice Center.
