Women's Cross Country Captures Fourth At Championships

SUPERIOR - Of nine teams, the UW-Eau Claire women's cross country team finished fourth today at the Nemadji Golf Course in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships.
The Blugolds collected 110 points to claim fourth. The winning UW-La Crosse team had 38, while the runner-up UW-Stevens Point Pointers managed 55. UW-Oshkosh took third ahead of Eau Claire at 105. The 141 point UW-Platteville crew took fifth with UW-River Falls gaining 142 and finishing sixth. UW-Stout proceeded to take seventh with 144 and UW-Whitewater's 184 day gave them eighth. Ninth place went to UW-Superior and its 281 points.
Rachel Anderson (Sr.-St. Paul, MN/Harding) again took first for the Blugolds. She placed 14th and ran a 23:23 race. Molly Warner (So.-Mosinee) took 16th and ran it in 23:28. Korah Petrasko (Jr.-Appleton/East) had a 23:43 day and claimed 21st. In 28th was Jane-Marie Ovanin (Sr.-Amherst) on a 23:59 race. Kasey Stanek (Sr.-La Crosse/Central) gained the last points for the team. She had a time of 24:05 and finished 31st.
Cassie Haak (Sr.-Shoreview, MN/Mounds View) was the sixth place runner for Eau Claire and she finished in 32nd with 24:06. Behind her was Bridget Bocher (So.-Watertown) in 34th at 24:09.
Of the 95 runners, Julia Rudd of La Crosse won the meet in 21:40. Teresa Stanley took second at 21:57 while her Stevens Point teammate Jenna Mitchler finished third with 22:01.
This makes for the fifth Eagle title ever and the third in the past five seasons. La Crosse had finished third last year with Stevens Point winning it and Oshkosh in second. La Crosse also repeats its double title performance from 2001, as the men took the Championships today as well.
Next up for Eau Claire is the NCAA Regionals on November 11th. They take place in Peoria, IL.
