Sun, May 19, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Soccer Clinches Conference Championship Posted: Saturday, October 22, 2005 EAU CLAIRE - The UW-Eau Claire soccer team clinched its first conference title in school history today defeating UW-Superior by a score of 4-0 in its final regular season home match of the year. The Blugolds are only the fourth different team to capture the title. Including UWEC, UW-La Crosse and UW-River Falls have won it once and UW-Stevens Point has won it 11 times. The Blugolds were in control most of the match. The Blugolds did not allow a single shot, out shooting the Yellowjackets 14-0. This was the Blugolds eleventh shutout of the season and their second in as many days. The Blugolds got their first goal of the contest when Jana Huebner (So.-Mendota Heights, MN/St. Croix Lutheran) scored her first goal of the season at the 32:00. Amy Smith (Fr.-Bloomington, MN/Jefferson) and Aimee Bretl (Jr.-Port Washington, WI) assisted on the goal. The Blugolds got their second goal of the contest when Jessica Millard (Fr.-Madison/La Follette) scored just before the half to give the Blugolds a 2-0 halftime lead. Liz Kooistra (Fr.-Lakeville, MN) then scored her fifth goal of the season at 59:34 to give the Blugolds a 3-0 lead. Maria Iaizzo (Jr.-White Bear Lake, MN) then scored the Blugolds final goal of the contest at 67:49. Cassie Peeters (Fr.-Little Chute, WI) was credited with the assist. The Blugolds end their conference season at 6-0-2 and now have an overall record of 12-1-4. The Yellowjackets fall to 9-8-1 overall and a conference record 0-8-0. The Blugolds finish undefeated at home on the season with a record of 8-0. Up next the Blugolds will travel to play St. Scholastica tomorrow with the action starting at 2 p.m. - JR - |
