Posted: Saturday, October 15, 2005
STEVENS POINT - The UW-Eau Claire soccer team had to settle for a 2-2 tie today against UW-Stevens Point, ending its four-game winning streak.
Prior to today the Blugolds had lost 18 straight matches to the Pointers dating back to a tie in the 1994 season.
The Blugolds struck first at 20:47 when Maria Iaizzo (Jr.-White Bear Lake, MN) picked off a pass back to the goalkeeper and put the ball in the net.
The Pointers came right back and tied the match up at 1-1 when the Pointers Anna Van Stippen kicked one in from 15 yards out.
The Blugolds then answered five minutes into the second half when Liz Kooistra (Fr.-Lakeville, MN) got pass from Marcia Foltz (Sr.-Madison/Memorial) and put one past the goalkeeper to give the Blugolds a 2-1 lead.
Then with just nine minutes remaining in the match the Pointers tied it up on a goal by Amanda Prawat.
The Blugolds had a chance in the first overtime but Foltz's kick hit the crossbar. The Blugolds Allie Rivard (Fr.-Wayzata, MN) had a fingertip save in the second overtime to keep the match tied.
With the tie the Blugolds are now 10-1-3 overall and have a conference record of 5-0-1. The Pointers now have a record of 7-5-2 and a conference record of 4-2-2.
Up next the Blugolds will have a makeup match from earlier this season as they will travel to face Carleton College Wednesday with action starting at 4 p.m.
