Posted: Thursday, October 13, 2005
EAU CLAIRE - The McPhee Pool will play host to five teams including the UW-Eau Claire swimming teams at the Midwest Coed Relay Meet this weekend as Eau Claire begins the season.
This meet allows races that have men and women on each relay team. Also competing are UW-Oshkosh, UW-River Falls, Webster, and Lawrence.
The men's swimming and diving team finished 21-11 last year and 3-2 in WIAC dual meets. Two divers even made it to nationals. This year they participate in 10 meets before the WIAC Championships take place. Four of them are at home.
The women's team had a 20-9 season a year ago. They also went 3-2 in WIAC dual meets. The team even sent someone to nationals and she captured 10th place in the 50-yard freestyle. Nine events are lined up for the squad before WIAC Championships, including four home meets.
Last year the Eau Claire ?A? team racked up many second spots at this meet, including the mixed 100-yard freestyle relay, the mixed 400-yard medley relay, the mixed 200-yard freestyle relay, the mixed 400-yard medley individual relay, and the mixed 400-yard freestyle relay. The Blugolds also claimed the top two spots last year in the mixed three meter diving and the mixed one meter diving.
Action begins this year at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday in the McPhee Pool as both the men's and women's teams look to get off to a great start to the new season.
