Posted: Wednesday, September 28, 2005
DECORAH, IA - For the second time this season the UW-Eau Claire soccer team had to settle for a double-overtime scoreless tie, this time to the hands of Luther College in Iowa tonight.
The Blugolds opened the season with a scoreless tie against Augsburg College. In that match, the Blugolds dominated the Auggies out shooting them 28-14, but were unable to put the ball in the net. This match was no different.
The Blugolds outplayed Luther the entire match. The Blugolds had a huge advantage in shots over the Norse, out shooting them 32-8 including an 18-shot second half. The Norse's goalie was busy saving 17 shots with five of which in the overtime sessions. The Blugolds only allowed two shots after halftime.
Allison Muer (Fr.-Minneapolis, MN/South) led the Blugolds in shots with eight. Allie Rivard (Fr.-Wayzata, MN) had four saves to preserve the tie.
The Blugolds are now 6-1-2 on the season with a conference record still at 2-0. Luther's record is now 4-3-2. The series record between the two teams is an even 4-4-1.
Up next for the Blugolds is a conference match-up Friday at UW-Oshkosh. The action is scheduled to begin at 2:00.
