Mon, May 20, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Loney Shatters Course Record, Women's Golf Moves Up Posted: Sunday, September 25, 2005 WHITEWATER - On the final day of the Whitewater Invitational on the Prairie Woods Golf Course, the Eau Claire team moved up to third as Maggie Loney (Sr. -River Falls) beat the previous course record by seven strokes. Loney shot a 66 on the day, which is six below par. It was by far the best score of the day, with the next best being a 77. There were only two scores besides Loney's that were below 80 on this rain soaked course. Loney dominated the invitational, where she claimed the top spot out of all 98 golfers with a two-day total of 144, in addition to her new record. The runner-up was eight strokes behind at 152. The 144 is exactly par for the course. The incredible effort of Loney and company helped move Eau Claire to third place out of 17 schools. The Blugolds had a grand total of 664 strokes on the invite. In first was Illinois Wesleyan with 642 and behind them was UW-Oshkosh with 652. Others in the top five were Illinois College in fourth at 673 while Carthage College was fifth as they shot 674. Besides Loney's top spot, Eau Claire had three others in the top 50. Meghan Sobotta (So.-Arcadia) was 12th with a 164 score, while Jesse Thompson (Jr.-Plover/SPASH) tied for 33rd as she totaled 176 strokes. In 42nd was Kim Huber (So.-Vadnais Heights, MN/White Bear Lake), who had 180 for the invitational. This was the last regular season event for the Blugolds, who end the year 40-7. The WIAC Championship is in Superior on October 1st and 2nd. - PH - |
