Wed, May 22, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Women's Tennis Competes At Ita Midwest Regional Posted: Friday, September 23, 2005 ST. PETER, MN - The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team failed to get anybody past the second round today in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Midwest Regional Tournament held at Gustavus Adolphus. The ITA Midwest Regional Tournament is one of 58 Wilson/ITA Regional Championships held around the country. The tournament includes the top 15 schools in the region including the top 75 singles and doubles players in the region. The champions in both the singles and doubles flights advance to the ITA National Small College Championships. The Blugolds were fairly successful in the first round of the tournament winning three out of the five matches they were involved in. First round winners for the Blugolds in singles were Kristie Carlson (So.-Arden Hills, MN/Mounds View), who won her match 6-2, 6-4 over Emily Loewen of Cornell and Molly Hunt (Jr.-Owatonna, MN), who defeated Jess Horn of Cornell in a close three-setter 6-3, 5-7, 7-5. Carlson lost her second match in three sets to Gustavus and Hunt lost to Luther in two sets. Katie Kuzma (Sr.-Buffalo, MN) the other singles player in competition, lost her first round match 7-5, 6-3 to Camila Alarcon of Grinnell. In doubles action, the Blugolds duo of Carlson and Hunt won their first round match 8-2 over Macalester, but was defeated in the second round by Carleton 8-2. The other doubles team of Kuzma and Laura Geissler (Jr.-Coon Rapids, MN) lost their opening round match 8-3 to Gustavus. Action continues at the ITA tomorrow morning at 9. The Blugolds return to conference action next Saturday (Oct.1) when they host UW-La Crosse. - JR - |
