Thu, May 23, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Volleyball Defeats Defending WIAC Champs In Thriller Posted: Friday, September 16, 2005 WHITEWATER - UW-Eau Claire defeated last year's conference champions tonight in the Williams Center as they defeated seventh-ranked UW-Whitewater 30-23, 30-28, 20-30, 19-30, and 15-11. The Blugolds hit .286 and .273 in the first two wins, while in the two losses the visitors were kept to .212 and .081. Eau Claire surged back with a .316 hitting percentage in the final set of this exciting match. The defense kept the opponents to less than .150 in the first two sets, but the Warhawks recovered in the last three sets as they hit above .250 in all. Carly Freiborg (Jr.-Sacred Heart, MN/Renville County West) tallied 54 assists through the five sets, while Jenny Wolter (Sr.-Osceola) and Molly Menard (Sr.-Eau Claire/Memorial) each contributed 17 kills. Shanna Berger (Jr.-Baldwin/Baldwin-Woodville) led the Blugolds with 27 digs. This huge victory leaves Eau Claire with a 9-1 record overall and 1-1 in the WIAC. This was the second loss for the Warhawks as they now stand at 10-2 and 1-1 in the conference. Tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. the Blugolds hope to bolster their conference record even further as they travel to UW-Stevens Point. - PH - |
