Thu, May 23, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Soccer To start Conference Action this Weekend Posted: Tuesday, September 13, 2005 EAU CLAIRE - The UW-Eau Claire soccer team will play host to WIAC conference opponents, UW-Platteville and UW-La Crosse, this Friday and Saturday at the Bollinger Fields. The Blugold soccer team has won their last two matches gaining some momentum into this week's contests. The Blugolds defense has been spectacular so far this season, not allowing a goal in 290 consecutive minutes. The Blugolds have out shot their opponents this season 46-17. Marcia Foltz (Sr.-Madison, WI/Memorial) has been a key contributor to the Blugolds offensive attack. She leads the team in assists with three and also leads the team in shots with ten. She earned WIAC athlete of the week last week for assisting on every goal against St. Thomas and scoring the only goal against Illinois Wesleyan. Amy Smith (Fr.-Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson), as a freshman, leads the team in goals with three. Platteville comes into town Friday with a record of 3-1-2. The Pioneers are coming off of a lose in their last match losing to UW-Stevens Point. Prior to that, the Pioneers had been unbeaten outscoring their opponents 10-2. The Pioneers were the six-most improved team in Division III last season, going from 2-16 in 2003 to 8-12 last year. The Blugolds have never lost to the Pioneers in the 16 matches the teams have played. The Blugolds will then host La Crosse on Saturday. The Eagles are unbeaten on the season with a record of 3-0. The Eagles have outscored their opponents this season 11-2. La Crosse currently leads the WIAC in shots with 99. The Eagles have increased their win total each of the last three seasons. The battle between Eau Claire and Platteville is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. Friday, while Blugolds match up versus the Eagles will start at 3 p.m. Saturday.
