Mon, May 20, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date 2005 Volleyball Season Preview Posted: Wednesday, August 24, 2005 The 2005 UW-Eau Claire volleyball team returns 10 letterwinners and four starters from a team that finished 20-11 in 2004 reaching the 20-win mark for the sixth consecutive season. In 2004 the Blugolds finished first in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) in blocks (2.95/game), third in hitting percentage (.244) and fourth in service aces (2.02/game). Right side hitter Jenny Wolter (Sr.-Osceola) earned honorable mention All-WIAC honors last season. Wolter ranked fifth in hitting percentage (.323) and 19th in blocks (0.86/game). In conference play Wolter ranked 11th in blocks (0.88/game). Outside hitter Molly Menard (Sr.-Eau Claire/Memorial) ranked 12th in kills (3.28/game) and 19th in hitting percentage (.233). Menard was an honorable mention All-WIAC selection in 2003. Middle hitter Jessica Groh (Jr.-Eau Claire/North) ranked fourth in blocks (1.36/game) and improved on those numbers in conference play finishing second in the WIAC (1.58/game). Setter Carly Freiborg (Jr.-Sacred Heart, MN/Renville County West) finished fifth in assists in her first season as the full-time setter (11.28/game). Freiborg ranked 14th in service aces (0.27/game) and improved that mark in conference play to finish third among conference leaders (0.52/game). Libero Shanna Berger (So.-Baldwin/Baldwin-Woodville) earned All-WIAC Defensive Team honors in 2004 ranking seventh in digs (4.20/game). Berger improved on that mark in conference action ranking third in the league (4.82/game). Outside hitter Jodi Dunbar (Jr.-Platteville) was a part-time starter who appeared in 90 games averaging 2.48 kills a game. Outside hitter/defensive specialist Heather Harnell (So.-Minnetonka, MN) was a part-time starter in the back row replacing Wolter. Harnell ranked 11th with 0.39 aces per game in conference matches. - KM - |
