MINNEAPOLIS - After a perfect first day of play in the 2003 Augsburg Tournament the UW-Eau Claire volleyball team dropped consecutive matches to Macalester and St. Olaf to finish in fourth place here today in Minneapolis.

The Blugolds record moves to 4-2 on the season while Macalester and St. Olaf both improve to 5-3 overall.

Eau Claire came out strong in its first match of the day as they took the first game from Macalester by a score of 30-27. The Blugolds were unable to keep the momentum throughout the match and dropped the next three games 30-24, 30-24, and 30-23. Macalester would later defeat Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference member UW-Stout in the tournament championship match.

Annie Kabat (Sr.-Greenleaf/Wrightstown) led all Blugolds with 14 kills while also leading the team in digs with 17. Molly Menard (So.-Eau Claire/Memorial) and Jenny Wolter (So.-Osceola) also totaled double digit kills with 11 and 10 respectively.

Eau Claire looked to rebound in the third place match against St. Olaf but lost in four games by scores of 32-30, 30-27, 29-31, and 30-26. Molly Menard led the way for Eau Claire totaling 20 kills while Brooke Wozniak-Schmidt (Sr.-Stanley/Stanley-Boyd) and Becca Carstensen (Jr.-Eau Claire/Memorial) each added 13. Amy Olson (So.-Plymouth, MN/Maple Grove) tallied five service aces in the Blugold loss.

At the completion of the tournament, Wozniak-Schmidt was named to the 2003 Augsburg All-Tournament Team.

Eau Claire will return to action this Friday when they will battle St. Scholastica at 6:00 p.m. in Duluth, MN. The Blugolds defeated St. Scholastica 3-0 in the first round of the Augsburg Tournament.
