Sat, May 25, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Schuna Named Second Team Academic All-American Posted: Monday, June 27, 2005 WALTHAM, MA - UW-Eau Claire men's track and field thrower John Schuna (Sr. -Hudson) added to his list of awards and honors by recently being named to the 2004-05 ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America Men's Track and Field/Cross Country College Division Second Team. Schuna is the second Blugold in the history of the men's track and field program to earn All-American honors. Jason Slaikeu was a three-time All-American as a high jumper earning first team honors in 1995-95 and second team honors in 1996-97 and 1997-98. At the time track and field/cross country fell into the at-large division and was not its own category. An exercise science major carrying a 3.84 grade-point average, Schuna concluded his career as an eight-time All-American in the shot put and one-time All-American in the discus. The 2002 NCAA Division III Indoor national champion in the shot put, Schuna is a two-time Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) outdoor champion and holds both school indoor and outdoor records in the same event. Schuna was named the 2005 WIAC Indoor Track and Field Co-Scholar Athlete and is a two-time recipient of the UW-Eau Claire Super Six award which is the highest honor given to a Blugold student-athlete. Academically Schuna is a member of the UW-Eau Claire Dean's List and the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll. In addition Schuna was also involved in the school's Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC). |
