Sat, May 18, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Owens, Schuna Place At NCAA Track Meet; stafslien, Mcmullen Qualify For Hurdle Finals Posted: Friday, May 27, 2005 WAVERLY, IOWA - John Schuna and Jessica Owens gave the UW-Eau Claire two more placewinners at the NCAA Division III track and field championships here Friday afternoon. Senior hurdlers Jen Stafslien and Breanna McMullen both made it through the trials to Saturday's finals in the 100-meter hurdles. Schuna (Sr.-Hudson) earned All-American honors for the fourth consecutive year by placing fifth in the shot put with a toss of 56 feet, .5 inch which is just short of his season best mark of 56-9.25. Last year, he placed third with a school record toss of 58-6.5. Owens (Fr.-Elm Grove/Brookfield East) earned eighth place in the high jump, clearing 5 feet, 5 inches which is just short of her top effort of 5-6.5 which she achieved last weekend. She was among six athletes who cleared that height. Three of them tied for fifth, Owens was in eighth and the other two finished out of the points in ninth and 10th, based on misses. Stafslien (Sr.-Onalaska/West Salem) had the second fastest qualifying time in the hurdles at 14.27, just behind Carthage's Sheana Grigsby who was clocked in 14.24. McMullen (Sr.-Fall Creek) made it into the eight-member finals with a 14.62 time, just ahead of four others who ran either 14.63 or 14.64. After five events, the Blugold women led the team scoring with 19 points with St. Thomas second at 16 and UW-Oshkosh third with 15 points. - TP - |
