Fri, May 24, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Qualifiers For NCAA Track & Field Championships Announced Posted: Tuesday, May 24, 2005 WAVERLY, IA - Five individuals and one relay team from the UW-Eau Claire men's and women's track and field squads will travel to Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa to compete in the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships to be held May 26-28. John Schuna (Sr.-Hudson) will represent the men's team this weekend as he will attempt to earn All-America honors for the fourth consecutive year in the shot put. Schuna recorded an automatic qualifying distance of 56-9.25 at the Blugold Open on April 16. Last year Schuna set the school record at the NCAA Outdoor Championships with a toss of 58-6.5. Jen Stafslien (Sr.-Onalaska/West Salem) will compete in the 100-meter hurdles, long jump, triple jump and 4 x 400-meter relay. Stafslien set the school and conference championship record in the 100-meter hurdles this year with an automatic qualifying time of 14.38, good enough for second in the nation and just three one-hundredths of a second off the fastest time of the year. Stafslien will also compete in the triple jump after setting the school record of 38-10.25 at the WIAC Championships on May 7. This weekend Stafslien will also compete in the long jump entering with a qualifying leap of 18-6.5 feet. Breanna McMullen (Sr.-Fall Creek) will compete in both the 100 and 400-meter hurdles as well as the 4 x 400-meter relay. In the 400-meter hurdles McMullen enters the competition with the second-fastest time in the nation posting a 1:01.91 at the UW-La Crosse Qualifier on May 20. McMullen will also compete in the 100-meter hurdles after recording a season-best 14.66 at the North Central Last Chance Meet on May 13. Stephanie Barnes (So.-Sauk City/Sauk Prairie) brings the third-best qualifying mark in the pole vault into this weekend's championships, clearing 12-7.5 at the WIAC Championships. The mark was good for second place at the WIAC Championships and also set a school record. Jessica Owens (Fr.-Elm Grove/Brookfield East) rounds out the list of individual qualifiers as she will compete in the high jump. Owens qualified for the Outdoor Championships when she jumped 5-6.5 at the UW-La Crosse Qualifier May 20. The women's 4 x 400-meter relay team of Liz Faller (So.-Marinette/Luther College, IA), Kristi Hansen (Sr.-Rosemount, MN), Stafslien and McMullen will enter preliminaries with the fifth-fastest time in the nation and school record of 3:50.63. The school record has been broken at three different meets this season beginning at the Drake Relays with a time of 3:53.70 then at the WIAC Championships with a time of 3:53.28 followed by the current school record of 3:50.62 set at the North Central Last Chance Meet on May 13. |
