Tue, May 21, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Women's Golf In Third At Nationals Posted: Tuesday, May 10, 2005 SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. - The UW-Eau Claire women's golf team shot a 46-over to finish the first round in third place at the NCAA Division III Women's National Championships held here today at Mid Pines Inn and Golf Club. The Blugolds are 16 shots back of leader Methodist College. The Lady Monarchs shot a 30-over in the opening round in their bid to win an eighth consecutive national championship. The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor is in second after shooting a 39-over. Methodist's Katie Dick is in first place individually after shooting a 3-over 72. Maggie Loney (Jr.-River Falls) had a strong opening round finishing the day in third place with a 6-over 78. Loney had two birdies on the day to help offset two double bogeys. Jesse Thompson (So.-Stevens Point/SPASH) also finished the first round in the top 10. Thompson shot a 7-over 79 to finish the day tied for fourth. Andrea Kloppman (Sr.-Eau Claire/Memorial) is next on the Blugolds with a 16-over 88. Kloppman had a rough front nine double bogeying four holes and bogeying four others. She came back in the back nine shooting a 4-over including a birdie. Meghan Sobotta (Fr.-Arcadia) is one shot back of Kloppman with an 89. Kelly Gerzsenyi (So.-Rochester, MN/Mayo) shot a 19-over 91 to round out the Blugold golfers. The championship continues with the second round tomorrow.
