EAU CLAIRE - The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season champion UW-Eau Claire softball team will host St. Mary's (MN) on Tuesday for a 4:00 p.m. doubleheader at Gelein Field.
The 15th-ranked Blugolds clinched the WIAC title with a 5-1 record in conference play last week. Eau Claire swept a doubleheader over UW-Superior on Wednesday when the Yellowjackets were just a game back in the conference standings. The Blugolds then went 3-1 at the WIAC Cluster Tournament in River Falls to claim the title, giving them the No. 1 seed for this weekend's WIAC Championship Tournament in Whitewater.
Eau Claire comes into Tuesday's doubleheader with a 30-7 overall record and has won eight of its last nine contests. Molly Blakewell (Sr.-Eau Claire/North) powered the Blugold offense last week as she hit .533 (8-for-15) with a pair of home runs and nine RBI while collecting five walks, two runs scored, a double, and a sacrifice bunt. She raised her average from .244 to .290 on the week. Mallory McKinney (So.-Brooklyn Park, MN/Champlin Park) was a perfect 3-0 in the circle for Eau Claire while also recording a save last week.
