EAU CLAIRE - The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season champion UW-Eau Claire softball team will host St. Mary's (MN) on Tuesday for a 4:00 p.m. doubleheader at Gelein Field.

The 15th-ranked Blugolds clinched the WIAC title with a 5-1 record in conference play last week. Eau Claire swept a doubleheader over UW-Superior on Wednesday when the Yellowjackets were just a game back in the conference standings. The Blugolds then went 3-1 at the WIAC Cluster Tournament in River Falls to claim the title, giving them the No. 1 seed for this weekend's WIAC Championship Tournament in Whitewater.

Eau Claire comes into Tuesday's doubleheader with a 30-7 overall record and has won eight of its last nine contests. Molly Blakewell (Sr.-Eau Claire/North) powered the Blugold offense last week as she hit .533 (8-for-15) with a pair of home runs and nine RBI while collecting five walks, two runs scored, a double, and a sacrifice bunt. She raised her average from .244 to .290 on the week. Mallory McKinney (So.-Brooklyn Park, MN/Champlin Park) was a perfect 3-0 in the circle for Eau Claire while also recording a save last week. She pitched 18.1 innings on the week, allowing just two unearned runs on 10 hits while striking out 17 opposing hitters and walking just one. She is now 14-4 on the season with a 0.92 ERA.

Andrea Neuville (Jr.-Green Bay/West) has also been stellar in the circle as she is 14-3 on the year with a 0.99 ERA. The Blugold staff has combined for a 1.03 ERA on the year.

Jill Janke (Fr.-Black River Falls) leads the Eau Claire offense with a .368 average and 30 runs driven in. She also leads the team in hits (42), doubles (10), and total bases (67) and is second on the team with five home runs. McKinney has been a threat for opposing pitchers as well, hitting .327 with two home runs and a team second-best 22 RBI. Casey Leisgang (Fr.-Seymour) continues her impressive debut season as she is hitting .310 for the season while leading the team in home runs (7), runs (35), on-base percentage (.430), walks (19), and triples (2).

St. Mary's comes into Tuesday's games with an overall record of 30-8 after clinching the No. 2 seed for the upcoming Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament. The Cardinals are not ranked in the latest poll but did receive votes. St. Mary's split a doubleheader with Concordia (MN) on Saturday, ending the Cardinals' seven-game win streak.

Jenni Gutterman leads the team in hitting (.397), hits (52), runs (27), on-base percentage (.451), total bases (65), and stolen bases (22). The runner up on the Cardinal roster in hits has just 29. Nikki Jung leads the team with 25 RBI while slugging three home runs and hitting .325 for the year. Amy Edge has been the Cardinals biggest longball threat with five home runs on the season to go along with a .296 average and 19 RBI.

Jenny Schipp leads the St. Mary's pitching staff with a 18-4 record and a 1.65 ERA. She has recorded 146 strikeouts against 42 walks this season. Megan Wallisch is 7-2 on the year with a 2.02 ERA and a pair of saves.

The action begins Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. at Gelein Field in Carson Park.
