Sun, May 19, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Softball To Host Superior Tuesday Posted: Monday, April 25, 2005 EAU CLAIRE - The conference-leading UW-Eau Claire softball team will host second place UW-Superior this Tuesday for a 4:00 p.m. doubleheader at Gelein Field. The Blugolds carry an overall record of 25-6 into play Tuesday and are 8-2 in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action. The team has been out of action since last Wednesday, when they earned a doubleheader sweep of Stout. Mallory McKinney (So.-Brooklyn Park, MN/Champlin Park) and Andrea Neuville (Jr.-Green Bay/West) kept the Blue Devil bats silent, each tossing complete game shutouts as the Blugolds won by scores of 1-0 and 8-0. With the victory, Neuville improved to 12-2 on the season after starting the year 0-2. She lowered her season ERA to a miniscule 0.78. McKinney improved to 11-4 on the year while her ERA sits at 1.08. Casey Leisgang (Fr.-Seymour) led the Blugold offense against Stout as she slugged two home runs, drove in three and scored four runs. She led off the bottom of the first inning with a solo home run. The blast proved to be the game-winning run as Eau Claire won the game 1-0. Leisgang raised her season average to .341 and improved her team-leading home run total to seven. Jill Janke (Fr.-Black River Falls) leads the Blugolds with a .362 average, 25 RBI, 10 doubles, and 34 hits on the year. McKinney his hitting .318 on the season with two home runs and 18 RBI. Superior comes into play Tuesday with a record of 18-7 and 4-2 in WIAC play. The Yellowjackets have a busy week this week, as they host UW-River Falls Monday before traveling to Eau Claire Tuesday and returning home to host La Crosse on Thursday. This all comes before the second WIAC Cluster Tournament this weekend. The Yellowjacket offense has been explosive this season, posting a team batting average of .335 with 14 home runs and 143 RBI. Sarah Tarasewicz leads the team with a .430 batting average, seven home runs and 30 runs scored. She has a team second-best 21 RBI. Kathleen Duffy is second on the team with a .407 batting average. Erin Kegley leads the team with 31 RBI while hitting a robust .362 for the year. Sara Fogel leads the pitching staff with a 1.06 ERA and has a record of 7-1 on the year. Katie Moench has a staff-best 10-3 record with a 1.71 ERA. The Blugolds and Yellowjackets met two times last season, splitting a doubleheader in Superior. Eau Claire dropped the opener 5-3 but McKinney and Neuville combined to shut down the Yellowjackets in game two. Neuville pitched 5 2/3 innings of one run ball but McKinney earned the win in relief, allowing only two hits and no runs over the final 4 1/3 innings as Eau Claire took the game 3-1. The action is set to begin Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. at Gelein Field in Carson Park. - DN - |
