Thu, May 23, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Tracksters Ready For Eau Claire Open Posted: Thursday, April 14, 2005 EAU CLAIRE - The UW-Eau Claire men's and women's outdoor track and field teams will host the UW-Eau Claire Open this Saturday, beginning at 10:30 a.m. at Simpson Field. Joining the women Blugolds at the event will be UW-La Crosse, UW-Stevens Point, UW-Superior, UM-Duluth, St. Thomas (MN), Winona State (MN), St. Mary's (MN), and St. Benedict (MN). The women's side of things will get rolling at 10:30 a.m. with the javelin and shot put competitions. Two Blugolds have posted the top distances in their respective events in the country this season, as Jen Stafslien (Sr.-Onalaska/West Salem) has the best distance in the long jump and Stephanie Barnes (So.-Sauk City/Sauk Prairie) is tied for the best distance in the pole vault. Stafslien posted a distance of 5.65 meters (18-6 ?) last weekend at the Falcon Invitational for the best jump in the nation so far this year. Barnes set a school record in the pole vault last weekend, clearing a height of 3.71 meters (12-2) to tie Jen VanderMeer of Hope College for the best height this season. Stafslien has also performed well in the triple jump and 100-meter hurdles this season. She has the second best time in the 100-meter hurdles in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference at 15.28 seconds and has the fifth best jump in the triple jump at 10.89 meters (35-8 ?). Breanna McMullen (Sr.-Fall Creek) brings in the best time in the 400-meter hurdles in the WIAC this season. She posted a time of 1:05.05 last weekend. Two other Blugolds bring in top-five finishes in the WIAC this season. Ashley Nelson (Sr.-Darwin, MN/Litchfield) has the fifth best jump in the long jump at 5.37 meters (17-7 ?) while Paula Crossfield (So.-Madison/East) has the fifth best distance in the discus at 39.20 meters (128-7). Joining the Blugold men at Saturday's competition will be UW-Stout, Stevens Point, La Crosse, Superior, UM-Duluth, Carleton (MN), Bethel (MN), St. Scholastics (MN), St. Mary's (MN), and the University of Minnesota. The men's competition begins at 10:30 a.m. with the hammer throw. John Schuna (Sr.-Hudson) is the only Blugold listed on the national honor roll, as he has the ninth best distance in the country in the shot put at 16.47 meters (54-0 ?). The distance is the second best this season in the WIAC. Shaun Marek (Sr.-Waunakee) comes in with the second best jump in the triple jump and the fourth best jump in the long jump in the WIAC this season. He posted a distance of 13.86 meters (45-5 ?) in the triple jump and 6.70 meters (21-11 ?) in the long jump. Adam Condit (Sr.-La Crosse/Central) has the second best time in the WIAC this season in the 1,500-meter run. He posted a time of 4:00.89 at the Viking Olympics on April 2. Al Oleson (So.-Wausau/West) will bring in the fourth best hammer throw this season in the WIAC to play this weekend. He recorded a distance of 48.46 meters (159-0) last weekend. The UW-Eau Claire Open will begin this Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Simpson Field. - DN - |
