EAU CLAIRE - The UW-Eau Claire softball team is currently ranked eighth in the country NCAA Division III softball, according to the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III Top 25 Poll.

The Blugolds are the only team from the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference ranked in the top 25. No other WIAC team even received votes in the latest poll. Eau Claire collected a total of 128 points in the poll, while Chapman ranked first with 197 points. Washington University in St. Louis was second with 192 points, Muskingum third with 165, Augustana (IL) and Salisbury tied for fourth with 162, St. Thomas (MN) sixth with 148, Rutgers Camden seventh with 144, and the Blugolds eighth with 128.

Eau Claire is off to a 12-3 start to the season. The Blugolds started 2-2 at the Rosemount Dome Tournament, which included a victory over then top-ranked St. Thomas. The win ended a Division III record 43 consecutive game win streak of the Tommies. St. Thomas needed just four more wins to tie Arizona's all-division record of 47 consecutive victories.

Since the 2-2 start, the Blugolds swept the final day of the Rosemount Dome Tournament and then went 8-1 at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Florida over spring break. After sweeping the first day of the event, the Blugolds suffered a 4-0 loss to Hope College but reeled off six straight wins to close the games. Four of the final six wins came via the shutout.

The eighth-ranked Blugolds will be back in action this Saturday when they battle St. Norbert in DePere. The game is set to begin at 2:00 p.m.
