Women's Golf Ties For Fifth At Jekyll Island

JEKYLL ISLAND, Georgia - The UW-Eau Claire women's golf team tied for fifth place out of 16 teams here today at the Jekyll Isle Women's Collegiate hosted by Oglethorpe University (GA) in the Blugolds first meet this spring.
The event was held at the Indian Mound Golf Course on Jekyll Island. The Blugolds posted a day one score of 349 on Saturday and followed it up with a 357 today for a total of 706, tying them for fifth place with McMurry University (TX). DePauw (IN) won the event with a score of 657 while Mary Hardin-Baylor (TX) took second with a 661. Illinois Wesleyan claimed third with a 683 while Savannah College of Art and Design took fourth with a 691.
Maggie Loney (Jr.-River Falls) led the Blugolds with a 166 for the event. She shot a first-round 76 and second-round 90. Meghan Sobotta (Fr.-Arcadia) finished with a score of 178, tying Kelly Gerzsenyi (So.-Rochester, MN/Mayo) for second on the Blugold team. Jesse Thompson (So.-Stevens Point/SPASH) was third on the Eau Claire roster with a 184 while Andrea Kloppman (Sr.-Eau Claire/Memorial) finished with a 187.
