Mon, May 20, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Sikora Finishes Fifth At Nationals Posted: Saturday, March 5, 2005 NORTHFIELD, Minn. - Fourth-seeded Derek Sikora (Jr. -Neillsville) lost his first two matches today but rebounded to win his final match in taking fifth place at the 2005 NCAA Division III National Championships concluded here today on the St. Olaf campus. Sikora started the day off against top-seeded Garrett South of Luther College. Sikora dropped a 7-3 decision to fall into the consolation bracket. Sikora lost his next match to Ursinus' Scott Roesch 12-8 to move onto the fifth place match. Sikora reversed two earlier season losses to UW-La Crosse's Nick Ammerman in the fifth place match. Sikora defeated the second-seeded Ammerman 4-0 to take home fifth place and finish the season 30-6. Sikora becomes only the fourth Blugold to become a two-time All-American with his fifth place finish. Tony Algiers did it in 1981 and 1982, Mark Janicki did it in 1969 and 1970 and Bob Wozniak did it in 1988, 1989 and 1990. - JL - |
