The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference semifinal playoff game between the I-94 rivals will tip off at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Johnson Fieldhouse. Stout, the co-champion of the WIAC, is the No. 1 seed and advanced with a 73-66 win over eighth-seeded UW-La Crosse Monday while the Blugolds, the No. 5 seed, upended No. 4 seed UW-River Falls, 62-43, at River Falls.
The winner of Wednesday's game will advance to the WIAC championship contest Saturday against the winner of Wednesday's other semifinal between No. 2 seed UW-Stevens Point and No. 3 seed UW-Oshkosh.
Stout and Eau Claire split their regular season matchups with each team winning on its home court--the Blue Devils by a 75-58 margin on Jan. 15 and Eau Claire by a 55-47 score on Feb. 12.
This is the fourth time in the seven-year history of the WIAC tournament that the two teams are meeting in the semifinals. Eau Claire won the games in Zorn Arena (61-59 in 2000 and 83-70 in 2003) while Stout won the previous encounter in Johnson Fieldhouse (71-68 in 2002).
