Wed, May 22, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Swimmers & Divers Down Oshkosh Posted: Friday, February 4, 2005 EAU CLAIRE - The UW-Eau Claire men's and women's swimming and diving teams each earned a fourth straight dual meet victory, topping UW-Oshkosh here tonight at the McPhee Physical Education Center pool. Neither the men nor women have suffered a dual meet loss since December 11, when each team fell to UW-La Crosse. The teams have since defeated UW-River Falls, Hamline (MN), UW-Whitewater, and now UW-Oshkosh. The men improve to 5-2 on the season in dual meets and 3-2 in conference dual meets with tonight's 142-93 win over the Titans. The Blugolds finished with wins in seven of the 13 events, including the 400-yard medley relay. No individual claimed more than one first place finish. The Blugolds swept both of the men's diving events, with Scott Heatwole (Jr.-Port Washington) winning the 3-meter event with a score of 282.60 and Bryan Dykstra (Fr.-Racine/Horlick) winning on the 1-meter board with a score of 290.55. Matt Schuebel (Sr.-Racine/Horlick) earned a win in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:53.15 while Brian Hauerwas (Fr.-Caledonia/Racine Case) winning the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 2:08.83. Cale Schmidt-Jackson (So.-Duluth, MN/East) claimed first place in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:09.03 while teammate Doug Horton (Fr.-Burnsville, MN) won the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:23.83. The Blugold women improve to 4-3 in dual meets on the season and 3-2 in the conference. The women defeated Oshkosh by a score of 158.50-83.50 and took first place in nine events, including wins in both relays. Sarah Myers (So.-Eau Claire/North) won both diving events, posting a score of 246.95 on the 1-meter board and 272.10 on the 3-meter board. Annie Gorman (Jr.-Menomonie) took first place in the 1000-yard freestyle, winning in a time of 11:08.52 while Cori Severson (Jr.-Brainerd, MN) won the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 25.26 seconds. Emmie Lee (Fr.-Zimmerman, MN/Elk River) won the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:15.38 while Amanda Kroger (Fr.-Shoreview, MN/Mounds View) won the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:37.57. Emily Diehl (Fr.-Prairie du Sac/Sauk Prairie) earned the final victory of the day for Eau Claire, winning the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:35.87. The next stop for the Blugolds is the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships, beginning Thursday, February 17 and concluding on Saturday, February 19 in Whitewater. - DN - |
