Wed, Jun 19, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Men's Hockey Swarmed By Yellowjackets Posted: Friday, February 4, 2005 EAU CLAIRE - The UW-Eau Claire men's hockey team saw a 1-0 lead evaporate into a 10-2 loss to third-ranked UW-Superior here tonight at Hobbs Ice Arena. The Blugolds fall to 8-11-3 on the year and 1-9-2 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association action while the Yellowjackets improve to 15-1-6 for the season and 8-1-2 in NCHA play. Eau Claire was the first on the board, taking advantage of a power play with 7:06 gone by in the first period. Pete Eloranta (Sr.-River Falls) netted the goal with assists coming from Phil Cherneski (Sr.-Thompson, MAN/RDPC) and Kyle Garner (So.-Sun Prairie). From then on, things turned ugly for the Blugolds. The Yellowjackets scored the next six goals of the contest spanning nearly to the end of the second period. In a 6-1 hole, Ben Manny (Sr.-Chippewa Falls/Chi-Hi) tallied an unassisted power play goal with a fantastic play. Yellowjacket goalie Mathieu Bonnelly attempted to flip the puck out of the Superior zone but Manny leapt up and grabbed the puck and fired it past Bonnelly for the goal. The play was the last gasp for Eau Claire as Superior finished the game with the final four goals for the 10-2 win. The Blugolds lost the shot battle by more than a two-to-one ratio, tallying just 18 shots to Superior's 43. Eau Claire will be back in action tomorrow night when the Blugolds host St. Scholastica at 7:05 p.m. at Hobbs Ice Arena. Eau Claire - Superior Box Score - DN - |
