Fri, May 24, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Women's Hockey Falls To Falcons In Conference Battle Posted: Friday, February 4, 2005 RIVER FALLS - The UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team could not overcome a two-goal deficit heading into the third period as the Blugolds fell 3-1 to UW-River Falls here tonight at Hunt Arena. The Blugolds fall to 11-7-1 on the season and 1-4-1 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play while the Falcons improve to 10-10-0 on the year and 5-3-0 in the NCHA. The two teams skated to a scoreless tie for most of the first period before Leah Baron found the back of the net on the power play with 1:46 left in the period to give River Falls a 1-0 lead. The Falcons widened the lead to 2-0 just 3:12 into the second period on another goal by Baron, this one with both teams at full strength. The Blugolds cut the lead to 2-1 with just 26 seconds gone by in the third period, when Martina Korinek (So.-White Bear Lake, MN) took a pass from Laura Suppes (So.-Falcon Heights, MN/Roseville) and tallied Eau Claire's lone goal of the game. The Blugolds managed just five shots in the third period while the Falcons added a third goal to finish the scoring at 3-1. Jill Arendt (Fr.-Plymouth, MN/Wayzata) took the loss in goal for Eau Claire, stopping 28 of the 31 shots that came her way. The Blugolds tallied two more shots on goal than the Falcons but were unable to earn the conference win. Eau Claire will be back in action tomorrow night when they head to Superior to battle the ninth-ranked Yellowjackets at 7:00 p.m. Eau Claire - River Falls Box Score - DN - |
