Mon, May 20, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Men's Basketball To Host Eagles Posted: Thursday, January 27, 2005 EAU CLAIRE - The UW-Eau Claire men's basketball team will look to rebound from a triple overtime loss to UW-Superior when they host UW-La Crosse Saturday at Zorn Arena. The Blugolds own a 99-62 lifetime record against the Eagles including a 69-55 win earlier this year. Eau Claire never trailed at La Crosse combining good offense and a stout defense. The Blugolds shot nearly 53 percent from the field while holding the Eagles under 39 percent shooting. Eau Claire comes into the game with a 10-8 overall record but has lost four straight in falling to 4-6 in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play. The Blugolds stayed close in three of the four losses losing by only 11 combined points in those three games. Casey Drake (Sr.-Rhinelander) leads the Blugolds into action with team-highs in points, assists and steals. Drake is second in the WIAC in scoring at 17.4 a game, fifth in assists at 3.2 a game and seventh in steals at 1.4 a game. Dan Archambault (Sr.-Oshkosh/West) is second on Eau Claire and 11th in the conference in scoring at 13.1 a game. Archambault is seventh in the WIAC in three-point percentage connecting on nearly 41 percent of his attempts. Will Jefferson (Sr.-Wausau/East) is third on Eau Claire and tied for 17th in the conference in scoring at 11.1 a game while shooting nearly 49 percent from the field, sixth in the WIAC. La Crosse comes enters the weekend with a 2-7 record in conference play and 5-13 overall. The Eagles have lost four of their last five games but played top-ranked UW-Stevens Point close in their latest game before falling 63-62 in overtime. The Eagles are currently the lowest scoring team in the WIAC scoring at a clip of 59.2 a game. La Crosse is eighth in the conference in shooting percentage at below 41 percent and is one of two teams in the conference with a negative season scoring margin. Joe Werner leads La Crosse in scoring and is tied with Jefferson for 17th in the WIAC at 11.1 a game. Werner leads the conference in rebounding at 7.3 a game including 3.1 boards a game off the offensive glass. The Blugolds can move into a tie for fifth place in the conference with a win and a UW-Whitewater loss to Superior. The game is scheduled to tip off at 7:30 p.m. - JL - |
