Sat, May 25, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Women's Hockey Gets Second Win Over Bethel Posted: Wednesday, January 26, 2005 FRIDLEY, MN - The UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team returned to its winning ways with a 5-0 triumph over Bethel College at the Columbia Arena here Wednesday night. After dropping a weekend series to nationally-ranked UW-Stevens Point that ended a six-game winning streak, the Blugolds gained their second win of the season over Bethel to push their season record to 10-5-1. That matches the school record for victories in a single season. Last year's Blugold team finished 10-15-2 to set the win mark. This is the fifth year of varsity hockey for the Blugolds. Freshman Jill Arendt (Plymouth, MN) turned away eight shots in goal to notch her second shutout of the season. She has been between the pipes for all 10 Blugold victories. Senior Christa Hubert (Blaine, MN) led the Blugold scoring with two goals, one of them on the power play. Amanda Schultz (Jr.-Stevens Point/SPASH), Tara Hayner (So.-Stillwater, MN) and Karen Hebert (So.-Lakeville, MN/Holy Angels) also chipped in with a goal each. After a scoreless first period, the Blugolds scored twice in the second period and broke the game open with three in the third. They had beaten Bethel by a 2-1 margin back on Jan. 8. In dropping their third shutout of the season, Bethel slipped to 2-11 overall. The Blugolds return to action Saturday afternoon when they travel to Winona to face St. Mary's University, a team they beat 4-0 previously this season. -TP- |
