(UWECBlugolds.com) - UW-Eau Claire head men's hockey coach Matt Loen has announced that former Eau Claire Memorial High School standout David Donnellan will transfer to UW-Eau Claire this fall. “David is an excellent defenseman and we are excited to have him join the Blugolds this coming season,” Loen said. “David brings three years of junior or Division I hockey experience and will be a big contributor right away.” Donnellan, who graduated from Memorial in 2008, played in 89 games and accumulated 19 goals and 55 assists. With 74 points, he is the highest-scoring defenseman in Old Abe history and ranks in the top 20 on the Old Abes’ all-time scoring list. He was named the most valuable player at the 2008 WIAA State Tournament as his team won the state title. Donnellan was named to the All-State Team his junior and senior seasons while being selected to the All-Big Rivers Conference team twice, once on the first team and once on the second team. After high school, Donnellan played two seasons of junior hockey in the USHL with the Sioux Falls Stampede, Tri-City Storm and Youngstown Phantoms. He played a total of 114 games with the three teams and had three goals and 28 assists. After two years in the USHL, Donnellan started his collegiate career last fall at NCAA Division I Western Michigan University and played in five games for the Broncos during the first semester. Donnellan then went back to the USHL to play for the Sioux City Musketeers. Appearing in 32 games for the Musketeers, he finished with four assists and helped his team to the quarterfinal round of the USHL playoffs. |
