Thu, May 23, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Wrestlers To Host Pioneers Posted: Monday, January 24, 2005 EAU CLAIRE - The UW-Eau Claire wrestling team look to duplicate their 25-23 win over Lawrence when they host Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent UW-Platteville Tuesday at the McPhee Phy. Ed. Center. The Blugolds come into the meet with a 1-3 record in WIAC meets and an 11-14 record overall. Eau Claire's lone conference win came against Lawrence. The Blugolds earned non-conference wins over St. Olaf, MSOE and Lakeland College. Eau Claire has six wrestlers with double-digits wins led by newcomer Josh Holforty (Fr.-Bloomington, MN/Kennedy). Holforty is 20-4 at 197 pounds and 1-0 as a heavyweight for an overall record of 21-4. Defending conference champion Derek Sikora (Jr.-Neillsville) is currently sixth in the nation at 165 pounds with an 18-2 record. Sikora has won his last four matches only giving up one point along the way. Lance Valiquette (Fr.-Eau Claire/Auburn) is 17-9 at 174 pounds and 17-10 overall while Drew Binger (Fr.-Fort Atkinson) is 14-10 in the heavyweight class. Platteville comes into the meet with a 1-2-1 record in the WIAC and a 7-10-1 record overall. The Pioneers defeated Lawrence, tied UW-Oshkosh and fell to UW-La Crosse and UW-Stevens Point. The Pioneers have only two wrestlers with double digit wins. Corey Binger has been the top Platteville wrestler with a 13-3 record at 125 pounds. Ryan Rozek is 10-8 in the heavyweight division while three other wrestlers have nine wins. The dual meet is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. - JL - |
