Fri, May 24, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Women Blugolds Look For Season Sweep Of Yellowjackets Posted: Monday, January 24, 2005 EAU CLAIRE - The UW-Eau Claire women's basketball team will look to repeat their 84-42 win over UW-Superior earlier this year when they host the Yellowjackets Tuesday at Zorn Arena. The Blugolds have won 35 consecutive games over Superior and hold a 44-10 lifetime record over the Yellowjackets. Eau Claire hasn't lost to Superior since a 60-58 loss in 1987. The Blugolds dominated the Yellowjackets earlier this year holding Superior to only 25.5 percent shooting from the field. Eau Claire comes into the game with a 4-5 record in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play and an 11-7 record overall. The Blugolds ended a three-game losing streak Saturday in a 59-52 victory over UW-Platteville. Emilee Planert (Sr.-Eau Claire/North) started her first game of the year against the Pioneers and had a team-high 13 points. Jessica Dickey (Sr.-White Bear Lake, MN/Cretin-Derham Hall) leads Eau Claire in scoring and is ninth in the WIAC at 11.6 points a game. Michelle Burns (Fr.-Eau Claire/North) is 12th in the conference at 11.3 points a game and third in rebounding at 7.1 boards a game. Rachel Becker (Jr.-Gilmanton) is playing a solid all-court game as she is in the top 20 in the WIAC in five major categories. Becker is first in assists at 4.72 a game, fourth in assist to turnover ratio at 1.44, fifth in steals at 2.39, tied for 16th in scoring at 10.6 a game and 17th in rebounding at 5.1 a game. Joanna Leafblad (Sr.-Eau Claire/Memorial) and Katie Murphy (Sr.-La Crosse/Aquinas) lead the long range attack for Eau Claire. Leafblad leads the WIAC with three pointers made with 36 while Murphy is tied for third with 25. Superior comes into the game last in conference with a 1-8 record within conference play and a 3-14 record overall. The Yellowjackets have lost their last three games by a combined 47 points. The Yellowjackets are last in four major categories in the conference. Superior is last in scoring offense, scoring defense, scoring margin and field goal percentage. The Yellowjackets are the only team in the conference with a negative scoring margin at negative 12.1 a game. Superior's leading scorer is Shannon Johannes at 8.6 points a game while Stephanie Janigo leads in rebounding at 6.2 a game. The Blugolds can move into a three-way tie for fourth place with a win and losses by UW-River Falls and UW-Whitewater. River Falls is on the road against third place UW-Stout while Whitewater hosts first place UW-Oshkosh. The game is scheduled to tip off at 7 p.m. - JL - |
