DEPERE - The UW-Eau Claire men's hockey team scored the only goal of the first period but third-ranked St. Norbert scored the next three goals as the Blugolds fell 5-2 to the Green Knights here tonight at the Cornerstone Community Center.

The Blugolds fall to 8-8-3 on the season and 1-5-2 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play while the Green Knights improve to 15-2-2 on the year and a perfect 7-0 in the NCHA.

Dan Lohr (So.-Madison/Middleton) started the Blugolds off on the right foot as he scored a five-on-three power play goal in the final four minutes of the first period to give Eau Claire a 1-0 lead. Assists on the goal came from Dave Coleman (So.-Whitby, ONT/Leo J. Austin) and Brooks Lockwood (So.-Hudson).

The Green Knights stormed back in the second period, scoring three unanswered goals. The first two came on the power play while the third goal came on a four-on-four situation. Pete Eloranta (Sr.-River Falls) pulled the Blugolds within a goal, tallying a power play goal with seven seconds left in the second period. Coleman and Phil Cherneski (Sr.-Thompson, MAN/RDPC) earned assists on the play.

Eau Claire was unable to get any further in knocking off the third-ranked team in the country as the Green Knights added two more goals in the third period to finish the scoring at 5-2.

The Blugolds finished the game with just nine shots on goal while St. Norbert peppered Eau Claire with 41 shots.

The two teams will meet up again next Friday, when the Green Knights come to Eau Claire for a 7:05 p.m. start at Hobbs Ice Arena.
