Women's Hockey Drops Close Battle To Pointers

EAU CLAIRE - The UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team battled sixth-ranked UW-Stevens Point to the final seconds before losing 2-1 here tonight at Hobbs Ice Center.
The Pointers got on the board first scoring with a little over five minutes left in the opening period. The Blugolds responded scoring the first goal of the second period. Christa Hubert (Sr.-Blaine, MN) used passes from Laura Brackey (Jr.-Oakdale, MN/Tartan) and Tara Hayner (So.-Stillwater, MN) to even the game at one.
Eau Claire kept the game tied until the final moments of the second period. Stevens Point's Jackie Schmitt scored the deciding goal with 21 seconds remaining in the period. The Blugolds were only able to manage one shot on goal in the final period in dropping to 1-17 lifetime against the Pointers.
The loss drops Eau Claire to 1-2-1 in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association and 9-4-1 overall. Stevens Point improves to 6-0 in the NCHA and 14-2 overall.
The Blugolds will face off against the Pointers again tomorrow night in Stevens Point. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
