Sun, May 26, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Men's Tennis Starts Spring Trip with a Victory By: Ashley Hofer, Sports Information Student HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (UWECBlugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire men's tennis team kicked off its 2011 spring break journey with an 8-1 win over Elmhurst College (Ill.) today. The singles competition featured several close matches, but Eau Claire emerged victorious in all but one. In the No. 1 match, Chris Kuna (Jr.-Edina, Minn.) fought back to claim the third set 10-7 after splitting the first two 7-6 (7-3), 3-6. Other tight matches came from the Nos. 5 and 6 matches, as Ben Robertson (So.-Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) and Ryan Vande Linde (Fr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) won respective 7-5, 6-3 and 7-5, 7-5 victories. The doubles events went more smoothly for the Blugolds. Kuna and Lars Olson (Sr.-De Pere, Wis.) picked up the 8-1 victory in the No. 1 slot and the team of Eric Wollum (Sr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) and Dirk Van Rybroek (Jr.-Madison, Wis./Edgewood) defeated their challengers 8-2. Florent Marco (So.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) and Vande Linde also won the third match 8-5. The Blugolds extend their impressive winning streak to 15 and stand at 15-1 overall. Eau Claire will continue its week-long trip with a match against University of Sioux Falls, S.D. at 8 a.m. (Eastern) tomorrow. |
