Wed, Dec 4, 2024 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Seven Men's Hockey Players Earn All-Academic Honors By: Kevin Meinholz, Sports Information Director MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (UWECBlugolds.com) - Seven UW-Eau Claire men's hockey players were honored by being named to the 2011 Northern Collegiate Hockey Association All-Academic Team, NCHA Commissioner Bill Kronschnabel announced today. Winning the award for the second time in their careers were Ross Janecyk (Sr.-Grand Rapids, Mich./Catholic Central), John Kearns (Sr.-Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South) and Tim Possehl (Sr.-Fond du Lac, Wis.). Janecyk, a political science major with a 3.25 grade point average, tied for fourth on the team this season with 17 points (eight goals, nine assists). He scored three power-play goals and one game-winner while recording a hat-trick against UW-River Falls on November 13, 2010. Kearns, a defenseman majoring in health care administration with a 3.42 GPA, finished with five assists this season. He played in all 27 of the Blugolds’ games. Kearns was also named the WIAC’s co-scholar-athlete recently and is currently trying out with the Idaho Steelheads, a minor league affiliate of the NHL’s Dallas Stars. Possehl is majoring in accounting with a 3.43 GPA. A defenseman, he played in 11 games this season and had five points (one goal, four assists). Receiving All-Academic honors for the first time in their careers were Tyler Jundt (Jr.-Williston, N.D.), Andrew McCabe (So.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial), Jordan Singer (So.-Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) and Andrew Wilcox (Jr.-Rochester, Minn./Century). Jundt majors in business finance and holds a 3.81 GPA. He scored eight points this season (three goals, five assists) while playing in 20 games. McCabe, who majors in business administration and has a 3.28 GPA, finished with 12 points (two goals, 10 assists) playing in all 27 games this year. Singer, a business management major with a 3.52 GPA, led the Blugolds this season with 29 points. He had a team-best 13 goals and 16 assists. Seven of his goals came on power-plays, while two were game-winners and he also had a hat-trick. Wilcox, a business marketing major with a 3.69 GPA, finished with 12 points this season (four goals, eight assists). He had three power-play goals and two game-winners. |
