Fri, May 24, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Wrestlers To Host Lawrence Posted: Friday, January 21, 2005 EAU CLAIRE - The UW-Eau Claire wrestling team will look for their first win in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action when they host Lawrence University Sunday at the McPhee Phy. Ed. Center. The Blugolds come into the weekend with a 0-2 record in WIAC duals and a 10-12 record overall. Eau Claire split two dual meets last weekend defeating Lakeland College 25-9 but falling to UW-Oshkosh 27-16. Eau Claire is led by the defending WIAC champion and Division III third place finisher Derek Sikora (Jr.-Neillsville) at 165 pounds. Sikora is currently ranked sixth in the nation with a 15-2 record. One of Sikora's losses came in a 4-2 decision to fifth-ranked Brian Daly of Augustana. Josh Holforty (Fr.-Bloomington, MN/Kennedy) is having a strong freshman campaign at 197 pounds. Holforty is 19-4 on the year with two of his losses coming to fourth-ranked Justin Sorrenson of Augsburg and eighth-ranked Jim Swanson of UW-La Crosse. Lance Valiquette (Fr.-Eau Claire/Auburn) and Drew Bingner (Fr.-Fort Atkinson) are also having strong years. Valiquette is 16-19 at 174 pounds while Binger is 12-10 in the heavyweight division. Lawrence comes into the weekend with a 0-2 record in WIAC duals and a 16-27 record overall. The Vikings recently took eighth out of 17 teams at the North Central College Invitational. The Vikings are led by John Budi at 165 pounds. Budi is 21-6 including first place finishes at the Coe College and MSOE Invitationals. Ben Dictus is also having a strong year for Lawrence going 15-4 at 174 pounds. The dual meet is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. - JL - |
