Wed, Jun 19, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Men's Tennis Wins Three Duals this Weekend
By: Kevin Meinholz, Sports Information Director EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (UWECBlugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire men's tennis team picked up three wins this weekend in one home match and two on the road. Friday, the Blugolds faced St. Norbert College and won 8-1, dropping just the No. 1 doubles match. Saturday, Eau Claire didn’t drop a match, winning 9-0 at Lawrence University and 9-0 at home against Northwestern College (Minn.) In northeast Wisconsin, the Blugolds swept singles play. Chris Kuna (Jr.-Edina, Minn.), Lars Olson (Sr.-De Pere, Wis.), Joe Wollum (Fr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial), Florent Marco (So.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial), Dirk Van Rybroek (Jr.-Madison, Wis./Edgewood) and Ryan Vande Linde (Fr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) all were undefeated on the weekend in singles competition. Vande Linde dropped the fewest number of games as he won at No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-1 on Friday and 6-0, 6-1 on Saturday. In doubles play, Wollum and Van Rybroek won both matches in the No. 2 spot while Marco and Vande Linde were undefeated in two matches at No. 3. In Eau Claire on Saturday, the Blugolds also competed well in their 9-0 win. Ben Robertson (So.-Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong), Chris Thornton (Sr.-St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall), David Stingley (So.-St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park), Joe Meier (Fr.-Hutchinson, Minn.), Brayden Parman (Fr.-Beaver Dam, Wis.) and Bryan Yanagita (Fr.-Minneapolis, Minn./South) all picked up singles victories. Stingley and Meier had the most convincing wins, beating their opponents 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively. Yanagita and Stingley won by the largest margin in doubles play, picking up an 8-1 win in the No. 2 spot. The Blugolds will be home again for three more duals next weekend. Friday the Blugolds will face Ripon College and Saturday they will take on Simpson College (Iowa) and Concordia University (Wis.). |
