EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (UWECBlugolds.com) - For the first time in program history, the UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team won a weekend series against UW-Stevens Point after beating the Pointers 3-1 at Hobbs Ice Center tonight.

The Blugolds, who hold a 6-28-2 all-time record against the Pointers, are 4-2-1 against them in the last three seasons. Eau Claire improves to 10-5-2 on the season and 7-4-1 in the conference while Stevens Point is now 9-6-1 overall and 5-6-1 in NCHA play.

Eau Claire scored a goal in all three periods to take down the Pointers.

Emily Larson (Fr.-Bemidji, Minn.) got the Blugolds on the board first with a goal at 11:50 in the first period. She was assisted by Dani Kerr (So.-Little Canada, Minn./Roseville) and Christine Dickinson (Sr.-Layton, Utah/Shattuck-St. Mary's).

In the second period, Casey McMullen (So.-Minneapolis, Minn./South) found the back of the net on an assist from Kelli Johnson (Sr.-Farmington, Minn.) to give the Blugolds a 2-0 lead.

But the Pointers didn’t go quietly and scored a goal at 3:50 in the final period. While the teams were back and forth the rest of the evening, Kristin Faber (Sr.-Austin, Minn.) gave the Blugolds a cushion with an empty net goal with 39 seconds to play.

Mara Stormer (So.-Waunakee, Wis.) picked up the win for Eau Claire in-goal, stopping 19 shots. Eau Claire finished outshooting the Pointers 22-20.

The Blugolds will be home two more times next weekend for a series against Lake Forest College (Ill.). The puck will drop Friday at 7 p.m. while Saturday’s game time is 2 p.m.
