Sat, May 18, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Kennedy Wins 184-Pound Flight; Wrestling Drops Three at Border Brawl Duals By: Kevin Meinholz, Sports Information Director WHITEWATER, Wis. (UWECBlugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire wrestling team fell in three dual competitions, but Tyler Kennedy (So.-Cottage Grove, Minn./Park) won the 184-pound weight class in the flight tournament, today at UW-Whitewater's Border Brawl Duals. Kennedy picked up two wins at 184 pounds to win the individual 184-pound championship. He opened the day with a 17-9 major decision win over Harper College’s Vinnie Polanco while he pinned Mount St. Joseph’s Dillon Burk in 1:26 to go undefeated on the day. In the first round of dual competition, the Blugolds were unable to come away with any points and fell 43-0 to Elmhurst College, Ill. In the second round, Eau Claire won three matches but came away with a 30-12 loss to Mount St. Joseph, Ohio. In the final round, the Blugolds won one match and fell 45-6 to Harper College, Ill. Against Mount St. Joseph, the Blugolds combined for two wins by decision and one by forfeit. Brian Reier (Jr.-Stillwater, Minn.), at 141 pounds, picked up a win by forfeit to earn six points. At 165 pounds, Craig Eckelberg (Jr.-Tomah, Wis.) won his match 6-3 while Luke Ortscheid (Fr.-Wausau, Wis./West) won the 197-pound weight class 6-5. In the final dual of the day, Levi Polus (Jr.-Winona, Minn.) won at 157 pounds. He pinned his opponent in 2:48 to score six points. The Blugolds will be back in action next weekend at the Pete Willson Invitational in Wheaton, Ill. The invite will be contested both Friday and Saturday. |
