Wrestling Defeated in Three Rounds of Duals

LA CROSSE, Wis. (UWECBlugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire wrestling team earned several individual wins, but was ultimately routed in all three of its meets at the Holiday Inn Express UW-La Crosse Wrestling Duals today in Mitchell Hall.
In two of the three meets, the Blugolds faced ranked opponents. The Blugolds were crushed 44-3 against No. 9 St. John’s University (Minn.) in round one and then fell 37-12 to No. 10 Cornell College (Iowa). Eau Claire closed out the day with a 34-12 loss to Loras College (Iowa).
Will Christ (Jr.-Shell Lake, Wis.) and Ryan Seidler (So.-Adams, Wis./Adams-Friendship) led the Blugold efforts, each picking up two wins against Cornell and Loras. Christ pinned both of his opponents in the 197 weight class, taking down the Cornell competitor just 1:01 into the match and the Loras opponent at the 5:37 minute mark. Seidler earned two decisions in the 149 weight division, defeating the Cornell wrestler 9-8. He beat the Loras opponent 14-12.
Joe Pitsch (Jr.-Oshkosh, Wis./North) was the lone Blugold winner in the St. John’s meet. He earned a 2-1 decision in the 285 class. Other Eau Claire winners were Levi Polus (Jr.-Winona, Minn.), who earned a 6-4 decision over a Cornell wrestler in the 157 weight class, and Matthew Rieckhoff (Fr.-Wausau, Wis./D.C. Everest), who was victorious in the 184 division with a 6-2 decision over Loras.
This Wednesday, the Blugolds will travel to take on UW-Oshkosh. The meet against the Titans is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
