(UWECBlugolds.com) - UW-Eau Claire women's basketball player Hannah Mesick (Sr.-Chatfield, Minn.) has been named to this season's inaugural D3hoops.com Team of the Week. The Team of the Week is D3hoops.com's weekly honor roll and is in its 14th season of recognizing the top performance at each of the five positions from the previous week. Mesick was selected at the center position and was among just four other players from around the nation to receive the honor. Mesick reached 1,000 points in her career as the Blugolds came up short 69-58 in their season-opener at the College of St. Benedict on Tuesday. In that game she led all players with 25 points, going 11-for-17 from the floor, and had seven rebounds. In Friday's 62-48 victory at Millikin University (Ill.) she recorded a double-double with a game-high 23 points and 14 rebounds, which was also a career-high. Despite a close 69-64 loss to Marian University (Ind.) on Saturday, Mesick again had a big game, scoring 26 points, a season-high and two shy of her career record, while leading the game with eight rebounds. She went 14-for-15 from the free throw line, two short of a program record for most free throws made in a game. After the three games, she ranks 13th on the Blugolds' all-time scoring list with 1,072 points. Just 14 others have ever reached 1,000 points in their careers as Blugold women's basketball players. Mesick was also named to the Millikin Tournament All-Tournament Team after the weekend games. |
