Tue, Jun 18, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Superior Too Much for Men's Hockey to Handle By: Kevin Meinholz, Sports Information Director EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (UWECBlugolds.com) - Despite being down by just one goal after two periods, the UW-Eau Claire men's hockey team couldn't stop UW-Superior from scoring two goals in the third period in a 4-1 loss at Hobbs Ice Center tonight. The Yellowjackets swept the weekend series as they also won 4-2 last night. The Blugolds drop to 3-4 on the season and 1-3 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play. Superior improves to 3-1 in the conference and 5-2 overall. Superior got on the board first with two goals in the first period. The first one came at 13:21 while the second came on a power-play at 17:17. But midway through the second period, the Blugolds’ Ross Janecyk (Sr.-Grand Rapids, Mich./Catholic Central) scored on a power-play to get the Blugolds within one goal. Isaiah Bennis (So.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) and Andrew McCabe (So.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) were credited with assists on the goal. The one goal deficit lasted for almost 22 minutes but the Yellowjackets pushed their lead back to two at 12:25 in the third. They added one more goal on an empty net with just over a minute remaining. Superior outshot Eau Claire 36-34 and each team scored once on power-plays as Eau Claire was 1-for-10 and Superior was 1-for-5. Scott Pederson (Jr.-Lake Villa, Ill./Grayslake) was in-goal the entire night for Eau Claire, except the nine seconds when the Blugolds played with an extra attacker, and stopped 32 shots. The Blugolds will be back in action next weekend with two games at Adrian, Michigan. They will face Adrian Friday at 3 p.m. and will then take on SUNY-Geneseo at 3 p.m. Saturday. |
