FOND DU LAC, Wis. (UWECBlugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team defeated Marian University 6-0 tonight at Blue Line Family Center.

Eau Claire was powered by three players who each scored two goals apiece. The Blugolds improve to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play. Marian drops to 0-6-1 overall and 0-4 in the NCHA.

Taylor Jenkins (Jr.-Austin, Minn.) gave the Blugolds a lead only 54 seconds into the game after an assist from Kristin Faber (Sr.-Austin, Minn.), who scored two goals of her own at 5:16 and 15:18 in the second period. Jenkins had one more goal at 11:54 in the second with assists from Faber and Dani Kerr (So.-Little Canada, Minn./Roseville).

Casey McMullen (So.-Minneapolis, Minn./South) was the other Blugold to score. Both of her goals, one which game in the first and one in the second period, were short-handed. The two short-handed goals tied a school record for most in a game. The feat has only been accomplished just two other times, most recently in 2008 by Faber while the other time was in 2000. Katie Ward (Jr.-Andover, Minn./Coon Rapids) assisted on the first short-handed goal.

The Blugolds dominated the shot chart, picking up 42 shots to Marian’s 13. Both teams were 0-3 on power-play opportunities.

Ally Derthick (Fr.-Knoxville, Tenn./New Hampton Prep) picked up the win in the net for Eau Claire as she played 40 minutes and stopped five shots. Jordyn Quiring (Fr.-Calgary, Alberta/Edge School) stopped eight shots in 20 minutes of play.

Tonight’s shutout win for Eau Claire was the 27th in program history. The last time the Blugolds shutout an opponent was Feb. 13, 2010 in a 4-0 victory over Finlandia University (Mich.). The six goals also ties for the 18th most goals Eau Claire has scored in a game.

Eau Claire is now 3-0 all-time against the Sabres and all three have been shutouts (Blugolds won 9-0 twice last season).

Saturday at 4 p.m. the Blugolds will once again face Marian University in Fond du Lac.
