EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (UWECBlugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team fell 3-1 to St. Norbert College in both teams' first Northern Collegiate Hockey Association game at Hobbs Ice Center tonight.
St. Norbert jumped on the scoreboard first with a goal at 11:44 in the first period but the Blugolds tied it up just seven minutes later with an unassisted goal by Taylor Jenkins (Jr.-Austin, Minn.).
At nearly an identical time in the second period, 11:40, St. Norbert struck again to take a 2-1 lead. They added a goal on an empty net with 1:15 remaining before the final buzzer.
Eau Claire, however, outshot St. Norbert 46-31 while both teams had identical penalty totals with five.
Blugold goalie Jordyn Quiring (Fr.-Calgary, Alberta/Edge School) finished with 28 saves on the night while allowing two goals.
The two teams met for the first time in history tonight as St. Norbert College is in its inaugural season. The Blugolds drop to 1-2 on the season while the Green Knights improve to 4-2.
The Blugolds will try and get back on track tomorrow night with another game against St. Norbert at Hobbs Ice Center. Action will get started at 7 p.m.
